VAKA #003 "PIÑALOHA"
When I was growing up we had fields of them here and although it is no longer a major local agricultural product, we love pineapples and have them all over the place. We wanted to explore building an abstract pineapple out of triangles, which is the iconic shape of VAKA and used red (Hawaiian royal), yellow (color of Oahu) and green (for the aina/land).
The VAKA 100 project is making 100 neo-Hawaii t-shirts and connecting with 100 charitable organizations that promote the VAKA ideals: Love, Dream, Work, Play. A portion of the proceeds of every VAKA 100 T-shirt sold is donated to a highlighted charitable organization to support it's good work building a stronger community. So if it compels you, buy it, wear it, share it and join the VAKA life! Thank you and aloha!
The charity this shirt supports is the One Acre Fund. They have had great results and in their own words: "One Acre Fund supplies smallholder farmers with the financing and training they need to grow their way out of hunger and poverty. Instead of giving handouts, we invest in farmers to generate a gain in farm income." Please check them out for yourself at oneacrefund.org.
